An idle to public space
Demand: Yalı Neighbourhood urban design idea project.
A shopping mall is planned for the idle part of Yenikapı on 821st cadastral parcel, next to a highway cutting the relation with the Marmara Sea. In order not to infringe on the prominence of a huge retail mass, shops are suggested as separate retail units with an open air corridors. This brings an open and green commercial area with a more dense public cluster. The cluster is subdivided into three different zones: commercial zone, hotel zone and recreational zone.
The complex is composed of an agglomeration of masses that form an inner pedestrian street in-between. The inner street is the semi -open circulation and public spine of the campus. It also gathers the programs in a horizontal relationship and a gathering space. In this way, the effect of the sea cut by the highway is ensured to penetrate between the masses, while it is aimed to create a naive touch with the fragmented and low-rise masses created when looking at the city from the sea.
