Big program, not a big parcel
Demand: A new campus for a k15 primary school, offices, cultural and recreational facilities, sports areas.
The project area is located in a green basin that is a continuation of the forest area around it. As seen from historical aerial photographs, this green texture has preserved its character and created a natural backdrop to the project area. The project area has a topographically inclined geometry.
During the project design phase, by analyzing the requests of the users of the building and prioritizing the participatory/collaborative design approach, it was aimed to establish a stronger human-space relationship that develops within the built environment after the construction of the building. In the project, which offers holistic, spacious and green-oriented spaces for school users by eliminating the disadvantages of physical topographic thresholds, the existing topography has been terraced and the land has been transformed from a disadvantageous position in terms of accessibility to an advantageous one. After the settlement of the masses, large-volume functions were resolved in the basement floor below the platform, creating a defined break area & central courtyard and providing a proportional lighter weight of the building mass.
Seeking answers to the need for a qualified and rich social space within the campus shapes the main plot of the project. The interface relationship between the courtyard and the interior spaces on the ground floor has created a scheme that feeds each other. This scheme creates a sense of belonging for the users of the campus and supports the idea of a unifying courtyard.
