A box for observation
Demand: Designing a new office, resting and observation building for the maritime pilots.
Harem is the key point of Marmara Sea because of being an entrance point of the bosphorus, and also for being one of the most important desitinations of ferries that connects Asia and Europe continents. The design is a new office, resting and observation building for the maritime pilots. Due to the strict regulations of the bosphorus shore line plan notes, designing the building as an architectural element was a challenging situation. To keep the ratios of the facades and heights of the existing building while trying to keep the program in two simple boxes was the main design attitude. The white precast facade elements are covering the building for a clear finish. The tapered form of the observation tower which is located at the top of the building was an obligatory. The rectangular frames around that tapered form hides the unusual geometry and keeps the orthogonal form of each floor.
